A joyful Sonnet Walk in Hampstead Village!

On Sunday 27th April 2014, Hampstead Village was descended upon by gangs of rose wielding Sonnet seekers, for Shakespeare in the Streets’ first ever Hampstead Performance!

As they followed a special guided route around the town centre, audience members encountered a variety of performers who entertained them with renditions of Shakespeare’s sonnets.

You’ll find more information on the “sonneteers” and the sonnets they performed by clicking here.

A selection of comments from our audience in Hampstead…

A pleasure from the first step to the last. Such imaginative settings for the sonnets – and some wonderful surprises along the way. Anyone who loves nature, walking, architecture, theatre or experiencing pure joy should do this!

An afternoon full of surprises, laughter, poignant moments, amazing imagination. A generous and life-enhancing treat!

Amazing! I have lived in the area for 40+ years and have learnt quite a bit! The sonneteers were the icing on the cake!

An awesome idea – REALLY well devised and such great fun! Definitely would do another of these walks. Thanks! Ps. Accidentally followed strangers in a graveyard- whoops! All the actors were so convincing!

Genuinely one of the most uplifting experiences I’ve had in a long time! Thank you!

Such a great way to spend an afternoon. A great way to experience Shakespeare, thanks!

Best Sunday afternoon ever! New people, exploring, history, sunshine and of course Shakespeare!!! Loved it, thank you!

Wondrously inventive and entertaining. Will tell everyone!

Completely unexpected, very witty and wonderfully researched, thank you!

So imaginative and immersive- had no idea what to expect and couldn’t have enjoyed it more.

Every one of your actors was individual and imaginative, making all the sonnets really unique little moments of story telling. The locations were brilliant and so beautiful. The whole event was just lovely!

It felt like stepping into a series of little worlds. We were really completely charmed by the whole thing. I think the entire group we were with felt the same way too.

What an absolutely fantastic time we had. Beautiful walk – and the sonneteers were great – all so very imaginative and great fun.

Thanks to all involved for making it such a special experience.
